Special and letter orders related to the Florida National Guard, 1915-1981.

This series contains orders issued by the Dept. of Military Affairs and the Office of the Adjutant General, and its predecessor, the Military Dept. relating to the Florida National Guard from 1915 to 1981. These orders deal primarily with personnel matters such as enlistments, discharges, appointments, resignations, and assignments to initial active duty and duty stations of members of the Guard. The majority of these orders are entitled "Special Orders". For a six year period, 1956-1962, some order were entitled "Letter Orders." Original copies of special orders are available for 1930 and 1953-1959. Original copies of letter orders are available for 1956-1962. All orders of these types from 1915-1981 are available on microfilm.

The Florida National Guard was established in 1909 (Ch. 5930, Laws) replacing the Florida State Troops. From 1921 until 1973, the Guard was placed under the Military Dept (Ch. 8502, Laws).
